At Included Health, we’re dedicated to raising the standard of care for everyone. We’re proud of our care coordinators from the LGBTQ+ Health team who help queer and trans people to be themselves with our guidance. We work to connect members of the LGBTQ+ community to culturally competent, affirming providers.
Below, read an anonymous story of how our care coordinators help members from the LGBTQ+ community or members with loved ones in the LGBTQ+ community.
How our LGBTQ+ Care Coordinators Help to Make an Impact
Eddie has a member who lives in Phoenix and is the parent of a child who recently came out as trans. The initial request was for a trans-competent therapist for the child. While Eddie worked on identifying therapists who were a good fit both culturally and clinically, he also passed along resources to help educate the parents on how to provide support to their child. He ended up finding a therapist who was both trans herself and in-network. The family was ecstatic.
The member was not only grateful to Eddie for support with the initial request but also for the extra resources that he provided. “As a parent, my primary objective is to provide unconditional love to both of my children. I truly do not understand how it could be any other way. So, when [child] came to use several weeks ago with his news, the only emotion that I really could not resolve was an uneasy feeling about how I could best support him. The love from my wife and I would never change, but I knew that [child] would be on a path that needed more than just our love. I feel incredibly proud of my company to have a partnership with Included Health, as without that as a resource, I probably would still be going down many Google search rabbit holes,” they relayed to Eddie.
The member felt cared for, saying that Eddie’s communications were warm and re-assuring from the start. “What a gift you have in allowing that to come through via text. Your support of resources and eventually connecting us with [therapist] has been amazing. My child has already had two sessions, and he is very comfortable with [the doctor]. I can’t tell you how happy this makes us.”
