Common questions about our health benefit

You’ve received a diagnosis or have been recommended for surgery or a form of treatment. We can provide a medical second opinion from a leading expert specializing in the area of need. For 3 in 5 patients, our experts recommend a change in the diagnosis or treatment.

Included Health is available to employees and dependents with a self-funded major medical or limited medical plan through their employer. It is not available with preventive benefit plans.

Included Health is available at no additional cost to eligible members. Your health benefit plan terms and provisions will apply for any treatments obtained as a result of the second opinion

A second opinion is typically delivered within 14 days of the initial case submission. This may vary depending on the amount of time needed to collect medical records.

Once you get started with Included Health, a member from your Care Team will reach out to you to learn about your exact needs. They will then take care of collecting your medical records. After you have received a second opinion from a Included Health doctor, your Care Team will follow up with you to answer any questions and make sure your needs have been met.

Included Health physicians span all conditions and specialty areas, including: back and knee pain, cancer, heart disease, arthritis, behavioral health disorders, migraines, digestive system disorders, dermatology, pediatrics, ACL tears, and much more.

Most doctors are glad to get another opinion on a complicated medical issue. You should not be concerned about offending your local physician as their primary goal is to help you get better, and this opinion is simply an additional resource. A good way to frame the conversation with your local treating physician regarding the second opinion is:

  • “I requested a consultation about [condition] and here’s what I learned…”
  • “Here’s what I was surprised to find out…”
  • “Dr. Smith recommended these options for my care because of these reasons…”
